Professional Development

At Penn State New Kensington, we are committed to providing professional and personal development courses and seminars to meet your specific needs. We bring the resources of a world-renowned teaching and research University to you. Whether your need is providing supervisory training for managers, computer courses, or assistance with a very technical problem, we can assist you.

Our professional development programs include:

  • Computers

    • Basic Excel - Students learn to create and format spreadsheets, enter data, sort data, print and save files, and become familiar with Excel functions.
    • Intermediate Excel - Students build upon basic Excel concepts, learn to protect data, name cells and ranges, use filtering techniques, use conditional formatting, templates and macro recorder, and track changes and work with multi-sheet workbooks.
    • Advanced Excel - Students will review Intermediate Excel, learn to work with advanced filters, Date/Time functions, auditing, goal seek, pivot tables, VLOOKUP and INDEX functions, and basic statistical analysis using the Analysis Toolpak and dialog box controls.
    • Microsoft Project - This course explains the basics of the Microsoft Project application. With hands-on training, the student is introduced to the concepts of planning and managing a project using Microsoft Project.  

      The face to face course is offered four hours per week for four weeks (total of 16 hours). Students will receive 1.6 CEUs and/or 18 PDHs*. The cost of the course is $495, and includes the courseware. Students interested in increasing their general knowledge of the Microsoft Project Application, conveying consistency between members of the organizational team, and satisfying the requirements for Professional Development Hours are encouraged to take the course. *Act 25 of 2010, the law, mandates that Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists licensed in Pennsylvania must complete 24 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) of continuing education in each two-year renewal cycle as a condition of license renewal.
