Overview
The Student Government Association (SGA) at Penn State New Kensington is designed to give students a voice on campus. Students are elected on a yearly basis with the goal of representing their classmates’ unique concerns and viewpoints.
SGA has two bodies, the General Assembly and Executive Board. The General Assembly consists of students from each class year, academic major, and one student athletic representative. The Executive Board consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian. Each of the positions above are elected by the student body, expect for the Parliamentarian who is appointed from the General Assembly to the Executive Board. The Executive Board’s role is to oversee the general functions of SGA and execute legislation passed by the General Assembly. The General Assembly’s role is to fairly represent the views and needs of their constituents and to create a quality student experience for students at Penn State New Kensington.
In addition to their roles within SGA, student representatives will be elected from the General Assembly to serve on various faculty and staff committees throughout Penn State New Kensington. This allows students to gain a better understanding of what’s going on at Penn State New Kensington and gives faculty and staff the opportunity to solicit student feedback during committee meetings. The SGA President will also chair the Student Initiated Fee Board, which governs how this money is spent on campus. Student organizations and campus offices can request the use of these funds on a yearly basis.
Students are encouraged to run for positions within the General Assembly and Executive Board. For more information about being elected to SGA please contact the Student Life Office @ 724-334-6063.
